2023 Graduate Internship Programme (Financial Stability)

The Financial Stability Institute (FSI) and the Financial Stability Board (FSB) are looking for recent graduates to join the 2023 Bank for International Settlements (BIS) cohort of Graduate Interns. This is an 11-month internship that will allow you to use the knowledge you gained during your studies in a professional environment. Joining us is not just about launching your international career, it is about doing meaningful work for the public good and serving the global community.

By joining the Financial Stability graduate internship programme you will:


• have the opportunity to work in an international financial institution at the intersection of research and policy.


• gain practical experience in policy analysis supporting central banks and other financial sector authorities.

Purpose of the Internship Programme:

The programme is aimed at enriching your work experience in order to help you in your pursuit of your next step, whether to a higher educational degree or a position at another organisation. Depending on your skillset and experience, you will be assigned to the FSI or the FSB.


• The FSI of the BIS assists central banks and financial regulatory and supervisory authorities worldwide in strengthening their financial systems by supporting the implementation of global regulatory standards and sound supervisory practices.


• The FSB coordinates at the international level the work of national financial authorities and international standard-setting bodies and develops and promotes the implementation of effective regulatory, supervisory, and other financial sector policies in the interest of financial stability. The FSB Secretariat is hosted by the BIS, and members of the Secretariat are staff of the BIS.

Principal accountabilities:


• In close collaboration with policy experts, contribute to the publications and meeting materials.


• Support economic research and analysis by collecting, processing and conducting statistical and econometric analysis of data from a wide range of sources.


• Conduct financial stability analysis to identify vulnerabilities in the financial system..

• Conduct policy analysis to support the implementation of sound regulatory and supervisory approaches worldwide.


• Create graphs and tables for use in publications and at key meetings on global financial topics.

Qualifications, skills, and experience:


• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field completed in 2022 or 2023
• Strong analytical skills
• Data processing and visualisation skills
• Drafting skills in English
• Exposure to topics such as financial stability analysis, financial regulation and

supervision, payment systems, fintech, crisis management and/or climate-related financial risks would be an advantage

What we offer:

The contract is for up to 11 months (non-renewable). We offer a competitive salary net of Swiss income tax, health insurance, support with relocation and return travel, as well as accommodation in Basel.
